The earlobe is made from soft, flexible fatty tissue and skin, making it easy to pierce for cosmetic purposes. It is also easy to rip or tear if an earring is pulled or the piercing is stretched over time. Many men and women have had their earlobe torn into two pieces from a stretched piercing or an earring pulled through the bottom of the lobe. At Eden Plastic Surgery Institute, we offer outpatient torn earlobe repair at our medical clinic in Miami.
The skin and tissue in the earlobe can become distorted over time. Heavy earrings and loss of elasticity in the tissue with age can allow ear piercings to stretch and elongate. This makes the hole larger and the bottom of the lobe thinner. It is common for the earlobe to become deformed and longer with age and it is easier to pull an earring through the bottom lobe. Even youthful, firm earlobes can be torn in half if an earring is caught or pulled. Once the earlobe is damaged, it requires medical care to repair the stretched hole or torn tissue.
Earlobe Plastic Surgery
It is not as simple as stitching the earlobe together when a piercing is stretched or the lobe is torn into two pieces. There is skin on the inside of the piercing that must be pulled back before the earlobe can be repaired. With earlobe plastic surgery, the earlobe damage can be repaired, and the lobe reshaped to restore a natural appearance without visible scars.
Dr. Ali Charafeddine is a board certified plastic surgeon who can quickly repair torn or damaged earlobes. The outpatient procedure can be performed at our clinic using only local anesthesia. In most cases, the earlobe can be re-pierced once the tissue heals.
